On November 20, 2013, I was sitting on my couch watching the “Fast and Furious” marathon that was on television with my laptop open. I reloaded my Twitter feed, closed my laptop without really reading anything and then immediately reopened it because I couldn’t believe what I just saw. The news had just broke that Paul Walker had been killed in a car accident that occurred in Valencia, California. I cried.
And, I cried [over Paul] again thanks to a trailer that was released. There has been a wave of documentaries being made focusing on the lives of the beloved celebrities that we have lost. The newest documentary that fits this bill is “I Am Paul Walker. The trailer for “I Am Paul Walker” opens with a smiley, teenage Paul recounting the date. Through what looks like home-video footage and interviews with friends and family, it looks like the TV Documentary is going to show us the side of Paul that we never saw while he was alive.
Paul was survived by his daughter, his siblings, and his parents. All of whom, we can assume, make an appearance in the documentary. In the trailer, Paul’s sister Ashlie details her late brother’s love of driving, “He liked to go fast,” she says. “As soon as I was old enough to hang on tight, I was on the back of his big wheel with him, going for the ride of my life.”
“I Am Paul Walker” is directed by Adrian Buitenhuis and was produced by Network Entertainment and the Paramount Network.
The film will premiere on the Paramount Network on August 11.
