Or at least not anytime soon or possibly in your geek lifetime.
A friends of ours was at the SXSW panel that Robert Rodriguez spoke at — the same Austin-based friend that’s been suggesting to us for months that’s been hinting for months that Rodriguez was very likely not going to be making “Sin City 2” — emailed us this quote with knowing laughter.
Asked what the status of “Sin City 2,” Rodriguez said, ” I always say ‘Sin City 2 right’ around the corner, because that’s what everybody wants to hear and I like pleasing the audience,” but added, “It might be a long corner.”
A lot of blog’s are holding on to the hope of a “long corner,” as they’re wont to do, but read between the lines people, seriously (plus he’s already strongly hinted/said that his long-overdue, “Jetsons” live-action adaptation will be next). So yeah, Rosario Dawson recently insisting that “Sin City 2” is going to shoot later this year. We’d bet our first born child this doesn’t happen.
Our pal was too busy to transcribe the entire panel discussion, but Cinemablend was there and took notes on the filmmaker’s thoughts on “Machete” and his upcoming sci-fi thriller “Nerveracker” which is due April, 2010.
About “Machete,” a concept born out of a short “Grindhouse” trailer, he says, ” I’m not going to bullshit you guys. We are making ‘Machete.’ We’ve already got the script and we’re ready to go.” But we’ve heard he’s going to executive produce and won’t direct; notice the “we.”
Cinemablend also has a quote that suggests Rodriguez was knocking “Blade Runner,” when he was describing “Nerveracker,” but considering he reveres that film and it was a chief inspiration in the creation of the sci-fi thriller, we’re pretty sure that’s out of context and or just missing the joke.
