You Can Now Read Todd Phillips and Scott Silver’s ‘Joker’ Script, And Laugh Again At The Awkward Dancing

Remember “Joker”? The origin story for a villain notorious for not having a concrete origin story? Remember how Todd Phillips of all people turned a script very heavily influenced by the work of Martin Scorsese into a billion-dollar hit? Well, you can now read the script that paved the way for the movie, and even find all the weird ways Phillips and Scott Silver describe Arthur’s dance moves.

The news comes from Deadline, who spoke to Phillips about his take of the DC villain and the response to the film. Though best known for helming not one, but three “The Hangover” films, Phillips has made one of the most successful comicbook movies of the year.

When asked about leaving things to the imagination, Phillips said “We purposely set out to leave some things vague and unanswered. That was a clear intent from the beginning.” Well, they certainly do leave some things vague, but Phillips also over explains the obvious things that shouldn’t be explained, like pulling a “Fight Club” and showing a montage explaining something that should be clear in the script. Well, except the script doesn’t include that montage, but it does include more of Sophie, apparently making it clear that Arthur did not kill her.

Now that “Joker” became a record-smashing success, and before we get the inevitable series of sequels and spin-offs, revisit the script that started it all. Revisit the Waynes murder for the millionth time, go down memory lane and read the many homages to Martin Scorsese’s work, and prepare for the inevitable Mr. Freeze movie that’ll probably be heavily inspired by “Raging Bull”.
