Regina Hall To Star In 'Midnight Run' Sequel With Robert De Niro Set To Produce

Of all the films in Robert De Niro’s career, did you ever think you’d hear the news that “Midnight Run” would be getting a true sequel more than 30 years after the original film was released? Yeah, pretty shocking right? How about the news that De Niro is actually involved in the film, as well?

Well, according to THR, a sequel to “Midnight Run” is in development with Robert De Niro attached as one of the producers. But it appears the film is more of a complete new story, as the star is set to be Regina Hall, who is probably best known for films such as “Girls Trip,” “The Hate U Give,” and the underrated film, “Support the Girls.” Most recently, she was seen in the Hulu series, “Nine Perfect Strangers.” It doesn’t seem as if De Niro is involved in anything other than producing the film, so it would be unlikely to see him show up on screen. But who knows? Crazier things have happened.

The sequel’s plot is yet to be revealed, but the original film stars De Niro as a bounty hunter that goes on the run with a mob accountant (Charles Grodin), as they try to lose the FBI and criminals who are after them. The “Midnight Run” sequel is set to be written by Aeysha Carr, who is probably best known for her TV work on series such as “House of Payne,” “The Carmichael Show,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and “Everybody Hates Chris.”

It’s unclear who might direct the film and when we might see production begin. But as of now, Universal seems ready to move ahead on another “Midnight Run” film, so brace yourself.
