Ridley Scott Was "Hugely Relieved" When He Saw 'Alien: Romulus' For The First Time

Ridley Scott is a filmmaker who isn’t known for biting his tongue. If he doesn’t like something, he’ll tell you, especially when it comes to one of his babies such as the “Alien” franchise. Thankfully, for filmmaker Fede Alvarez, when he showed “Alien: Romulus” to Scott, it wasn’t the end of the world.

Speaking to THR, while on the red carpet for the “Alien: Romulus” premiere, filmmaker Ridley Scott, who produced ‘Romulus,’ talked about what he was feeling when director Fede Alvarez let him watch the new ‘Alien’ film for the first time.

“I was hugely relieved that it was potentially a huge film,” said Scott, “and I just said, ‘You don’t have to take a note but I’ll tell you what I think.’”

Scott then said he sat down and wrote several notes for Alvarez. In the interview, Scott did let us know what one of the notes was for the film—the runtime was too long.

“Directors tend to make it too long,” Scott said. “It was long so you don’t want to lose your dynamic. The dynamics in this kind of movie are everything, and he had so much going on; he didn’t need so much.”

Judging by the early reactions to the film, “Alien: Romulus” looks like it could be the rare sci-fi horror that earns acclaim from critics. We’ll have to wait and see. But one thing is for sure–Ridley Scott is a fan.

“Alien: Romulus” arrives in theaters on August 16.
