Yesterday, we revealed the 12 films selected to be part of the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival’s Platform program. TIFF describes the program as one that focuses on distinct voices and assured directorial efforts that address difficult subject matters unflinchingly. This year, there are some major filmmaking names debuting during Platform, but one that is flying under the radar is “Rojo.”
In the first trailer for “Rojo,” we see that even some of the smaller films at TIFF could surprise us. “Rojo” tells the story of a stranger that disrupts a community by insulting a renowned lawyer. From there, as seen in the footage, there’s a unique crime story at play with twists and turns aplenty.
The film comes from writer-director Benjamín Naishtat. His previous two films, “History of Fear” and “The Movement,” have had plenty of festival appearances, including Berlin, Karlovy Vary, New Directors/New Films, and Locarno. Now, the filmmaker brings his latest film “Rojo” to debut at TIFF.
“Rojo” stars Dario Grandinetti, Andrea Frigerio, and Alfredo Castro.
“Rojo” will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which beings on September 6.
Here’s the synopsis:
The film is set in the mid-seventies, when a strange man arrives at a restaurant in a quiet provincial city, where he starts insulting renowned lawyer Claudio. The community supports the lawyer and the stranger is humiliated and thrown out of the place. Later that night the lawyer takes a path of no return involving death, secrets and silences.
