It’s been a strange last decade of acting for Aaron Eckhart. Everyone knows the actor as Harvey Dent from Christopher Nolan‘s 2008 blockbuster “The Dark Knight. But since then, Eckhart’s done mostly B-movies, actioners, and dramas that barely make waves at the box office. And for every hidden gem he’s done in recent years, like 2020’s “Wander,” there’s something like 2014’s “I, Frankenstein” that’s so abysmal one wonders why Eckhart signed on to make the pic.
So what does Eckhart star in next, and what will its overall quality be? We have an answer: “Rumble Through The Dark,” a bare-knuckle boxing drama in the Mississippi Delta. Based on Michael Farris Smith‘s 2018 novel “The Fighter,” Eckhart stars as Jake Bouchet, a down-and-out ex-fighter whose decades of concussions have caught up with him. After a gamble goes bad, Jake finds himself in debt to Big Momma Sweet, the Delta’s criminal queen. To get even, he’ll have to return to the ring, with the help of Bella Thorne‘s Annette, a carnival worker with a slanted, mystical take on redemption.
“Rumble Through The Dark” also stars Marianne Jean-Baptiste as Big Momma Sweet, Joe Hursley, and Liz Fenning. Ritchie Montgomery, Mike McColl, and Susan McPhail round out the main cast.
Graham Phillips & Parker Phillips co-direct “Rumble Through The Dark.” Smith adapts his novel for the big screen. Cassian Elwes and Cleta Ellington serve as producers. Elevated, Crooked Letter Picture Company, Foresight co-produce the film with Lionsgate handling US distribution.
“Rumble Through The Dark” looks like another B-picture for Eckhart, but don’t write it off on that alone. The film arrives in theaters and on streaming on November 10. Watch a trailer for “Rumble Through The Dark” below.
