There are very few actors in Hollywood that can basically get any film financed as long as they attach their name to the cast list. Ryan Gosling is one of those actors. And what does he use his golden ticket for? Recently, he’s signed on for a Lord & Miller space film, a remake of “The Wolfman,” a franchise-starting Russo Brothers action film with Chris Evans, and now, a ‘50s mystery about an actor stuck in Middle America. The man makes interesting choices, right?

According to Deadline, Gosling has signed on to star in a new film titled “The Actor,” which is directed by Duke Johnson. Shockingly, the film tells the story of an actor (go figure) in the ‘50s that wakes up in Ohio without his memory of how he got there, as he struggles to put the pieces together and reclaim his life and identity. “The Actor” is based on the novel “Memory” by Donald E. Westlake. The script is co-written by Johnson and Stephen Cooney.
As mentioned, “The Actor” is just the latest in an interesting line of films that Gosling has signed on for over the past year. Previously, the actor was probably best known for films like “Drive,” “La La Land,” and “First Man.” Now, he’s working on “Project Hail Mary,” directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (“21 Jump Street”) and based on a novel by Andy Weir (“The Martian”). Then he’s set to work on “The Gray Man,” which is a $200 million blockbuster at Netflix that he co-stars in with Chris Evans and is expected to kickstart a new franchise for Gosling. Speaking of franchises, we also can’t forget that Gosling is already signed on to star in “The Wolfman,” which sees him collaborating with writer-director Leigh Whannell, who is coming off his successful remake of “The Invisible Man.” Oh yeah, and there’s this new David Leitch film that he’s going to play a stuntman in.
We know that Gosling once flirted with the idea of starring in a Marvel film (he was reportedly in the running for “Doctor Strange”), but as weird as that sounds, it wouldn’t be all that shocking given the actor’s recent string of projects. Clearly, Gosling is willing to tackle any genre, as long as the project seems interesting enough.
There’s no release date set for “The Actor,” but yet again, Gosling has another project that we are eagerly anticipating.
