Over the years, we’ve seen films that tackle the life of a person in the military from almost every angle. However, there’s one side of the military life that hasn’t really been explored much on film, until now. Premiering at this year’s SXSW is the newest film from writer/director Megan Griffiths, “Sadie.” In the first teaser trailer for the movie, we see how military life affects the daughter of a soldier, and it’s probably not how you would expect.
The trailer does a great job of showing the tone of what is bound to be a pretty dark film. “Sadie” tells the story of a young girl, who is greatly affected by the repeated tours of duty her father goes on in the military. While he’s away, she sends letters and just wants her family back together. As we see in the footage, her family life is turned upside down by a number of factors, which leads to…something. It’s just a teaser, and it definitely teases.
Griffiths is perhaps best known for “Eden” and “Lucky Them,” as well as a variety of TV episodes. “Sadie” stars indie vets Melanie Lynskey and John Gallagher, Jr. “Veep” and “Arrested Development’s” Tony Hale and “Orange is the New Black” actress Danielle Brooks also star. Rounding out the cast is newcomer Sophia Mitri Schloss as the titular Sadie.
If the teaser is any indication, this film feels like one to look out for at the upcoming SXSW.
