While casting is underway for “Dune Messiah,” another big event film collaboration from Legendary and Warner Bros. is gathering steam, as the next “Godzilla x Kong” installment has added another high-profile name to the call sheet.
Multiple outlets like The Hollywood Reporter are announcing that veteran actor Sam Neill (“Hunt For The Wilderpeople”) has nabbed a mysterious role in the latest MonsterVerse entry that sees Grant Sputore (“I Am Mother”) directing, after Adam Wingard exited, from a script penned by Dave Callaham (“Shang-Chi,” “Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse”).
Neill will be joined by other actors such as Matthew Modine (“Stranger Things,” “The Dark Knight Rises”), Katilyn Dever (“The Last of Us”) taking the main human role with Jack O’Connell (“Sinners”) playing her brother, Delroy Lindo (“Sinners”), and Dan Stevens (“Abigail,” “The Guest”) as Kong’s quirky vet, one of the few returners from “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.”
The Kiwi actor, who once auditioned to play James Bond, is no stranger to genre studio projects after Amblin‘s “Jurassic Park” franchise (most recently appearing in “Jurassic World: Dominion“), along with John Carpenter flicks like the Lovecraftian thriller “In The Mouth of Madness,” and playing a villain in “Memoirs of An Invisible Man.”
This isn’t the only MonsterVerse project in the works, as a follow-up season of Apple‘s “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” streaming series is happening, which previously boasted Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, and “Shogun” breakout Anna Sawai among the cast, and they have hired actress Amber Midthunder (“Prey”) to play a new character in it.
Warner Bros. will unleash the next “Godzilla x Kong” adventure on March 26, 2027.
