Got a Tip?

Samantha Morton Joins David Cronenberg’s ‘Cosmopolis’

While Samantha Morton has briefly flirted with the tentpole world, memorably playing opposite Tom Cruise in Steven Spielberg‘s “Minority Report” (and she has a role in the upcoming “John Carter of Mars“), the actress have carved out a fascinating career largely built on selecting parts in uniquely independent films. In recent years she has starred in Oren Movernman‘s “The Messenger,” Harmony Korine‘s “Mister Lonely,” Anton Corbijn‘s “Control” and Charlie Kaufman‘s “Synecdoche, New York.” And she’s now adding one more acclaimed director to her list.

A chatty Robert Pattinson revealed to MTV that Morton has joined David Cronenberg‘s “Cosmopolis” saying, “I know Juliette Binoche is in it now, and Samantha Morton. It’s going to be a crazy cast. Like, I have a feeling it’s going to be amazing.” We definitely hope so.

The film is based on Don DeLillo‘s book of the same name, and follows 24 hours in the life of newly married billionaire Eric Packer (Pattinson) as he cheats on his wife, is pursued by a stalker (Paul Giamatti), gets attacked by a protester and gradually loses his entire fortune over the course of a single day. No word yet on Binoche and Morton’s roles, but we’d guess Morton is the wife and Binoche is the mistress, which if accurate, would actually kind of awesome. But again, we’re just guessing here.

Regular collaborators composer Howard Shore and director of photography Peter Suschitzy are said to be returning to work with Cronenberg on the film, which is gearing up to start shooting in May in Toronto for nine weeks.
