Got a Tip?

Marvel Announce A ‘She-Hulk Series Is Coming To Disney+

Part of the journey is the end and some of the major Marvel characters have said goodbye, Captain America (for now anyhow), Iron Man and Black Widow. What about some of the original “Avengers.” Well, there’s no word yet, but a new Disney+ announcement could potentially be a hint. Tonight onstage in Anaheim at D23, Marvel’s Kevin Feige revealed that a “She-Hulk” show is in development and will eventually come to Disney+.

No other details were revealed, but in the comics, She-Hulk is directly related to the Hulk and Bruce Banner character; presumably, Mark Ruffalo would have to show up at some point. How else is another Hulk character going to appear? In the comics, following a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, Jennifer Walters gained all the powers of the Hulk—and all the problems. But while she gained massive strength, she never lost her passion for justice. Because the Jennifer Walters character is a lawyer (there’s been speculation that she could be a lawyer to help out Spider-Man with his upcoming legal problems, but, obviously that’s out of the question at the moment). She-Hulk is also usually intelligent in the comics and not savage the way the regular green behemoth usually is.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe never strictly follows the origins of the comic to the letter anyhow and they could spin the story any way they like—they’ll have to since Banner doesn’t really exist on his own now and the character is Smart Hulk—but it stands to figure Ruffalo will factor into the series in some way.

It would additionally make sense to introduce She-Hulk as a character if they’re looking for a way to ease the Hulk out of the MCU the way they already have with Captain America, either sidelining the character or putting him away on the bench for now. Last we say Smart Hulk in “Avengers: Endgame” he sustained a great arm injury after using the Iron Gauntlet. Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo had said the damage was permanent and tellingly, Smart Hulk wasn’t much of a factor in the final ‘Endgame’ battle, present, but not up for the challenge of a rematch against Thanos.

His injury would pose a smart way of easing out the character and introducing the need for a new Hulk. No word on the cast, showrunners, etc. or date, but presumably “She-Hulk” is a Phase 5 show appearing no sooner than 2022.
