Marvel Studios Bringing A 'Moon Knight' Streaming Series To Disney+

Comic book companies have always had knockoff versions of their competition’s characters for years. For every Superman at DC, there’s Sentry and Hyperion over at Marvel. And for Batman, well, one of the closest characters that Marvel has is Moon Knight. And now, announced at D23, Disney has announced that Marvel Studios is bringing Moon Knight to the upcoming streaming service.

Details are slim, but we know that Marvel Studios is bringing “Moon Knight” to Disney+ sometime in the future. For those not aware of the C-list Marvel character, Moon Knight is basically the same idea as Batman with one big caveat. Marc Spector is a federal officer that gets mortally wounded in duty. His life is saved by the moon god Khonshu.

After amassing a bit of a fortune doing soldier-for-hire gigs, he goes back to the US and becomes Moon Knight, using the abilities that were granted to him by Khonshu. However, there’s one problem — he also suffers from a mean case of multiple personality disorder. Meaning, he’s basically a rich guy that dresses up as a superhero at night to fight crime, but he also is completely batshit crazy.

The comparisons to Batman were more apt decades ago. But as the character evolved, the mental illness aspect of Marc Spector became the overriding issue in the stories. It’s a rich history that can make for an awesome series. Oh, and he also looks really cool.

No word on when “Moon Knight” will arrive on Disney+ or how he’s going to integrate with the rest of the MCU, but it’s safe to say that there has yet to be a hero like him introduced to date. Should be interesting.
