Got a Tip?

Sigur Rós To Appear On ‘Game Of Thrones,’ Presumably As Old Timey Fantasy Version Of Sigur Rós

null

Beloved HBO fantasy series “Game of Thrones” is fast becoming the old timey version of “The OC,” at least when it comes to incorporating of-the-moment indie rock bands into the show (and in its celebration of Peter Gallagher-esque bushy eyebrows). The latest band tapped to be on the medieval, direwolf-filled version of The Bait Shop? Icelandic art poppers Sigur Rós, who are currently filming their appearance in Croatia for the show’s upcoming fourth season. Dreamy!

According to the report from Entertainment Weekly, the band’s role is top secret but… they’re a band. So we assume they’ll be playing some music on the show. Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson, Georg Hólm and Orri Páll Dýrason are all on hand for the episode, which should also include some boobs and some unlucky bastard getting their throat cut. As EW notes, The National and The Hold Steady have previously recorded songs for the show (the songs later appeared on the accompanying soundtrack albums) and members of Snow Patrol and Coldplay have had small roles on the show (Coldplay drummer Will Champion was a guest at last season’s infamous “Red Wedding”).

Previously, Sigur Rós appeared on that other Sunday night cultural institution, “The Simpsons.” “Game of Thrones” returns next spring, hopefully with more dragons.
