Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve (“The Worst Person In The World”) is currently making waves at the Cannes Film Festival with her buzzy new film Joachim Trier‘s “Sentimental Value“ and is lining up a new project with director Alexander Payne (“The Holdovers”), his first Danish-language effort, “Somewhere Out There.”
Reinsve nabbing a supporting role in the pic. The news on the Danish project is from Screen Daily, which first revealed Reinsve and Payne’s involvement but wasn’t able to share any concrete details or basic information, which is a little disappointing since you’d like to have a little more to go on beyond it being a comedy.
What they are sharing is that it has a script penned by Norwegian novelist Erlend Loe that is said to be based on an original idea from Swedish-Danish filmmaker Åke Sandgren (“The Shooter,” “Headhunter”).
“As longtime admirers of Alexander Payne’s films, it goes without saying that we are incredibly proud and honored to be, respectively, writing the screenplay for and producing his first European feature,” said a statement from Skov and Loe posted by Screen Daily.
The pic is a huge international effort, not only having an American director, but the producing team includes Denmark’s Scanbox Production, Norway’s Hummel Film, Sweden’s Nordic Drama Queens, and France’s Maneki Films.
“Given Denmark’s rich cinematic history stretching back to the silent era, I feel privileged to direct a Danish movie, and I hope I can serve Erlend Loe’s terrific screenplay,” Payne added in his own statement explaining the reasoning for shooting “Somewhere Out There” in Denmark.
Payne has made a career of making mature comedies with acclaimed projects such as “Sideways,” “Election,” “About Schmidt,” “The Descendants,” “Nebraska,” “Downsizing,” and most recently gave us the period Holiday dramedy “The Holdovers.”
We’re curious who they’ll end up casting alongside Reinsve, as the main actors have yet to be named, as you’d expect them to be hiring a bunch of local Scandinavian talent like Reinsve.
