‘Sinners’ Tops ‘One Battle After Another’ With Record 16 Oscars Nominations [Complete List]

After almost five months of campaigning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the nominees for the 2026 Oscars, and to no one’s surprise, Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” led all films with 16 nominations. The Warner Bros. release made history, earning the most nominations ever, surpassing the 14 that “All About Eve,” “Titanic,” and“La La Land” received. Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” earned 13 noms. Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” Josh Safdie’s “Marty Surpreme,” took 9 nominations, and Joachim Tier’s “Sentimental Value” took nine noms, while Chloe Zhao’s “Hamnet” found 8.

This year’s Best Picture nominees include the aforementioned “Sinners,” “One Battle After Another,” “Frankenstein,” “Sentimental Value,” “Marty Supreme,” and “Hamnet” as well as Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia,” Joseph Kosinski’s “F1,” Kleber Mendonça Filho’s “The Secret Agent,” and Clint Bentley’s “Train Dreams.”

“Sinners,” “One Battle,” and “F1,” which was financed and produced by Apple Studios, were all distributed by Warner Bros. This is the first time in 51 years that one distributor has been credited with three Best Picture nominations. The last time it occurred, in 1975, Paramount Pictures earned Best Picture noms for “Chinatown,” “The Conversation,” and “The Godfather: Part II,” the latter of which won the category.

“Sinners” tally was partially thanks to a new Casting category that also saw “Hamnet,” “One Battle After Another,” “Marty Supreme,” and “The Secret Agent” recognized.

Notably, Diane Warren earned her 17th Oscar nomination in the Original Song category, Focus Features became the first studio in the modern era to land three Best Actress nominees (Jessie Buckley, Kate Hudson, Emma Stone), a record four non-English language performances are nominated this year (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Wagner Moura, Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård), for the seventh consecutive year, at least one film nominated for Best Picture has been directed by a woman (Chloe Zhao becomes the second woman to earn Directing nominations after Jane Campion), Steven Spielberg earned his 14th nomination for Best Picture, a record for an individual producer (since 1951 when producers were first named as nominees), and “Sirat’s” Amanda Villavieja, Laia Casanovas and Yasmina Praderas become the first all-women sound team (production sound mixing, supervising sound editing and rerecording mixing) to be nominated for a sound award.

The 98th Oscars will occur on Sunday, March 18, and broadcast live on ABC and Hulu. Conan O’Brien will return as host, and you can pretty much guarantee “Golden” from “KPop Demon Hunters” will be performed at some point.
