Got a Tip?

Soderbergh’s ‘Che’ Film(s) Snags ’09 Release Dates

Steven Soderbergh’s epic Che Guevara biopic(s), “The Argentine” and “Guerrilla,” have grabbed two separate theatrical release dates for 2009. It had already been announced that the film was being screened on December 12th for a week in Manhattan and Los Angeles to qualify it and Benico del Toro to be considered for Academy Awards. We were unsure as to when a actual theatrical release would be for the rest of the country, but IFC Films have just set the film to be released on 1.1.09 and 2.20.09.

Unfortunately the general public will not be given the chance to see the four-hour epic in its entirety as its theatrical run will split the first and second half into two separate releases six weeks apart beginning in 2009. The first half, “The Argentine” will be released theatrically on January 1st, and the second half, “Guerrilla” will be released six weeks later on February 20th. However, there has been some talk of the films being released on IFC OnDemand and theoretically, one could watch the whole thing at home in one sitting. We loved “Che” at TIFF, and we’ll definitely be going for another viewing come December.
