No honor, no mercy, no retreat. Thanks to the acclaimed and award-winning series revival “Shogun” along with video games like “Ghost of Tsushima” and “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows,” the samurai genre is having quite the resurgence in the West. A new gritty samurai thriller, “11 Rebels,” is coming to various VOD digital services on June 10, and the film’s distributor, Well Go USA Entertainment, has released a new trailer promoting the action flick.
“11 Rebels” takes a page from true events, Japanese history being great fodder for drama and action projects alike, focusing on a rag-tag group of ten convicts that are assembled to help defend a small town in feudal Japan, and if they survive will win their freedom.
The cast of “11 Rebels” features Yamada Takayuki, Nakano Taiga, Onoe Ukon, Sayashi Riho, Sakumoto Takara, and Chihara Seiji.

In Kazuya Shiraishi’s action-packed epic, ten convicts are promised freedom in exchange for defending a small town in feudal Japan. Tasked with holding a fortress against encroaching government forces, they fight with the desperation of men with nothing to lose. But when the officials who recruited them renege on their promise, the warriors realize they’ve been used as pawns in a larger scheme.
