'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Trailer: The Smuggler's Saga Is Unveiled

One of 2018’s most buzzed about movies has to be “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” the young Han Solo movie. It ranked in the top 50 of The Playlist’s 100 most anticipated movies of the 2018, but the only official anything we’d seen was a behind the scenes promo picture of the cast and the vague photos director Ron Howard had also been sharing on his Instagram.

But now, we have a glorious trailer! Finally! An official synopsis reveals what this new film about the smuggler will involve:

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

The film’s production has been wrought with bumps in the road. An acting coach for star Alden Ehrenreich had to be brought in. Rumors of Disney expecting the film to bomb started circulating. Original editor Chris Dickens was replaced by Pietro Scalia. “The Lego Movie” directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller were originally slated to direct, but on June 20, 2017 the pair left the project citing “creative differences” with Lucasfilm (even though there was only three and a half weeks left of shooting). Just two days after that announcement came, Howard swooped in as the director.

But, given the amazing roster of names in front of and behind the camera, it is hard not to have high expectations. It stars Ehrenreich, Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Paul Bettany, and Joonas Suotamo. Bradford Young, who was nominated for an Oscar for his amazing work on “Arrival,” is the cinematographer. Composer John Powell worked on the score, with John Williams contributing the main theme for the film.

Visit a galaxy far, far away when the film opens on May 25th.
