'Skyscraper' Trailer: Dwayne Johnson Goes Die Hard

It looks like 2018 isn’t shaping up to be a big campaign year for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. His proposed 2024 presidential campaign was put on the back burner to star in three action movies being released this year, the first of which to come out is Legendary’s “Skyscraper.” It looks just about as bananas as Dwayne Johnson running for president. Many details regarding the film have been kept under wraps, but the film’s official synopsis certainly paints a vivid image:

Global icon Dwayne Johnson leads the cast of Legendary’s “Skyscraper” as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Ford, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building…above the fire line.

Legendary won the rights to the film in a massive seven-figure deal against heavy hitters like Universal (who’ll be handling the distribution rights), Sony, and Paramount. What sold the studio on the film was just the script alone which apparently has “shades of “Die Hard,” the classic Bruce Willis action movie set in an office building, as well as ” The Towering Inferno,” the 1974 disaster movie that starred Paul Newman and Steve McQueen and featured a gargantuan office building engulfed in flames.” While filming, The Rock made sure to chronicle the experience through behind the scenes videos and photos shared on his Instagram.

The film also stars Neve Campbell, Chin Han, Roland Møller, Pablo Schreiber, Byron Mann, Hannah Quinlivan, Noah Taylor, Jason Day, Byron Lawson, and Elfina Luk. Johnson is reteaming with his “Central Intelligence” director Rawson Marshall Thurber (who also wrote the screenplay).

“Skyscraper” opens on July 13th.
