Artwork & Rumors Flying Around For 'Solo: A Star Wars Story'

We’re five months away from the release of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and unlike the usual Disney promo machine which can start over a year in advance of any of their movies, there was been nothing yet. Of course, Phil Lord and Chris Miller‘s surprise exit from the film mid-production threw a spanner in the works, but nonetheless, there are no official stills, no trailers, and only one very plain poster. Even by this point before the launch of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” there was a trailer and stills.  However, some information of sorts is starting to leak.

First, some kind of marketing material/artwork has emerged on a totally random Russian merchandise licensing site (via Superbro Movies), providing a rendering of Alden Ehrenreich‘s Han Solo, Emilia Clarke‘s Kira, Donald Glover‘s Lando Calrissian, and of course, Chewbacca. I’ll leave it to nerds to pick apart or praise at their will.

Meanwhile, ScreenGeek (yeah, me neither) is claiming that a source has told them Disney is expecting ‘Solo’ to tank. They write:

Disney is bracing themselves for the Han Solo movie to bomb. They were worried about it before all The Last Jedi controversy, but now they’re essentially writing Solo off. The lead actor, Alden Ehrenreich, can’t act, and they had a dialogue coach on hand for all of his scenes. On top of that, the script is unworkable. It’s going to be a car crash.

In fairness, it was revealed over the summer that Lucasfilm hired an acting coach for Ehrenreich, because they were unhappy with the performance he was giving in the Lord and Miller take on the material. So perhaps ScreenGeek is confusing a dialogue coach (why he would be using one, unless Han Solo now has a weird accent?) with an acting coach. Either way, take it all with a bag of salt.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” opens on May 25, 2018.
