“Nowhere Boy” director Sam Taylor-Johnson returns to the world of music biopics with “Back To Black,” the story of British songstress Amy Winehouse’s rise to fame. HBO’s “Industry” breakout star Marisa Abela stars alongside Jack O’Connell, Eddie Marsan, and Lesley Manville.

“Babes”
Comedienne and FX’s “Better Things” creator/writer/director Pamela Adlon makes her feature-length directorial debut with a comedy about a woman who gets pregnant from a one-night stand and then turns to her best friend, a married mother of two for help. “Broad City” actress Ilana Glazer, who leads the comedy, produced it and co-wrote it with Josh Rabinowitz. Michelle Buteau, John Carroll Lynch, and Hasan Minhaj also co-star.

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”
Director George Miller returns to the “Mad Max” world with “Furiosa,” a prequel to his beloved 2015 actioner “Fury Road.” Anya Taylor-Joy plays the younger version of Charlize Theron’s character and co-starring alongside her are Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke. Mayhem likely follows.
Release Date: May 24 via Warner Bros.
“Hit Man”
Richard Linklater directs a romantic action comedy about an undercover Houston police officer who poses as a reliable hitman as he tries to save a woman in need. Co-written with its breakout star Glen Powell (“Anyone But You”), the film co-stars Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, Retta, and Molly Bernard (our review).
Release Date: In select theaters May 24; streams on Netflix June 28.
“Robot Dreams”
Filmmaker Pablo Berger adapts the comic by Sara Varon, which is about the friendship between a dog and a robot in New York in 1984. There’s no dialogue, but apparently, it’s a whimsical delight (our review).

“Inside Out 2”
Pixar storyboard artist Kelsey Mann steps up to direct the sequel to the beloved animated film, “Inside Out.” Most of the original voice cast returns Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black, and they’re joined by an array of new, more complex emotions voiced by Tony Hale, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, Kyle MacLachlan and more.
