If you have Instagram, it’s likely that you’ve seen the huge number of fitness professionals that have accrued large followings on the social media platform. And though the profiles and pictures make it seem like these people are living the dream, that’s not always the case, as seen in Magnus von Horn’s new film, “Sweat.”
As seen in the new trailer, “Sweat” tells the story of a popular fitness influencer that has more than 600,000 followers on social media. And though she’s a huge star, adored by her fans, there is more drama in her life than you might guess. The film only covers a short period in her life, but over those days, she’s forced to come to terms with a potential stalker, the gossip sites spreading rumors, and the reality that she may have to step away from the whole lifestyle just to avoid the stress.
As mentioned, the film is written and directed by von Horn. And much like his debut feature, “The Here After,” which premiered during the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes, “Sweat” was also chosen by the French film event to be featured this year. However, given the COVID-19 pandemic, Cannes only released a list of Official Selections and won’t be screening any of the films for the public.
“Sweat” doesn’t have a distribution schedule announced yet. However, with its selection as part of this year’s Cannes picks, Von Horn’s film will likely find its way in theaters sooner than later.
Here’s the synopsis:
Sweat recounts three days in the life of fitness motivator Sylwia Zając, whose presence on social media has made her a celebrity. Although she has hundreds of thousands of followers, is surrounded by loyal employees and admired by acquaintances, she is looking for true intimacy.
