'Swimming With Sharks': New Series Starring Kiernan Shipka & Diane Kruger Hitting Roku Channel In April

After being introduced to the world as part of the cast of “Mad Men” and then redefining herself in the recent Netflix series, “Chilling Adventures of Sabrine,” it appears actress Kiernan Shipka is ready to jump back into the world of TV in the new series, “Swimming with Sharks.”

According to The Roku Channel, the streaming service is going to release a TV adaptation of “Swimming with Sharks” starring Shipka alongside Diane Kruger. If the title sounds familiar, it should, as it was the title of the 1994 film starring Kevin Spacey and Frank Whaley. And it appears the new series is adapting that story for a modern era.

Here’s the synopsis for the series:

When Lou Simms (Kiernan Shipka) starts her internship at Fountain Pictures she seems like a naïve Hollywood newcomer, awestruck by the studio’s notorious CEO, Joyce Holt (Diane Kruger). In truth, Lou has done extensive research on Joyce and landing this internship was no happy accident. As Lou’s obsession grows, she will do anything to get close to her idol.

Joining Shipka and Kruger in the cast for the new series are Donald Sutherland, Thomas Dekker, Finn Jones, Erica Alexander, Ross Butler, and Gerardo Celasco. “Swimming with Sharks” is created and showrun by Kathleen Robertson. The series is directed by Tucker Gates, who is a veteran of TV, working on series such as “The Sinner,” “House of Cards,” “The Bates Motel,” and “The Office.”

“Historically, Hollywood has always represented reinvention, rebirth. Starting over. There has never been a better time to embrace that,” said Robertson. “My goal was to subvert this story and come at if from a place of both wonder and corruption, through the eyes of two complex female perspectives. Their performances are quite extraordinary. Nobody will ever see Kiernan Shipka as ‘Don Draper’s daughter’ ever again. We are beyond thrilled for this to premiere on The Roku Channel.”

“Swimming with Sharks” is expected to begin its six-episode run on The Roku Channel this April. You can watch a clip from the original film below:
