Taika Waititi Doesn’t Think It’s A Bad Thing That ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ Has Been Delayed

For someone that is clearly as organized and thoughtful as Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, the man who has successfully orchestrated and released two dozen superhero films in 10 years that all paid off in huge box office numbers and fan adoration, having to delay the entire slate of upcoming Phase 4 films has to be driving him insane. For the filmmakers, such as Taika Waititi, who are crafting films that will comprise the new slate, this COVID-19 pandemic is forcing everyone to take a bit more time perfecting their stories, and that’s not a bad thing.

Speaking to Total Film (via GamesRadar), Waititi was asked if he could talk about any details regarding his forthcoming film, “Thor: Love and Thunder.” The filmmaker, who previously wrote and directed “Thor: Ragnarok” and is writing and directing the new sequel, is still under the strict Marvel law that dictates that nothing can ever be said about a film until it’s released. But he can talk about what the release date shuffle is giving him that he didn’t have with ‘Ragnarok’—an abundance of time.

“No, I can’t. I can’t at all,” Waititi explained. “But the other thing is, there are a few positive things I can take away [from the Covid-19 crisis]. One of them is that a lot of these films, and films in general, are rushed, or you don’t have as much time as you’d want to have on the script and things like that.”

“We’re still writing ‘Love And Thunder,’ and I think it’s good to just keep writing, and then you know, we’ll have a really, really good script,” he added. “And with writing, especially, you should use as much of that time as possible to get your story right, because you never really get it later on. Film is an industry where you’re always complaining about not having enough time. I think, right now, we’ve given ourselves a huge amount of time to work on all sort of things, so we may as well use it.”

As mentioned, ‘Love and Thunder’ was originally scheduled to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. However, the first wave of delays at Marvel Studios pushed the film to February 18, 2022. That all changed, again, with Marvel giving ‘Love and Thunder’ its most recent release date of February 11, 2022.
