In what might be the most shrug-worthy news item of the day, THR’s Heat Vision reports (with a very uncomfortable opening sentence) that Teresa Palmer (“Bedtime Stories”) has joined the cast of “I Am Number Four,” helmed by none other than “Eagle Eye” guy D.J. Caruso. Palmer will play Number Six, one of the nine aliens that escape their planet before it is taken over by another species. Alongside of her will be Sharlto Copley (“District 9”) and Alex Pettyfer (“Beastly”), which we previously reported. No details of her character are given, though judging by Palmer’s recent career choices (“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” along with “Bedtime Stories”), we’ll go out on a limb and say she won’t be terribly interesting.
With all this commotion over the film, one would be lead to think that the book has a rabid fan base of some sort. Not this time. The book hasn’t even been released (August 17, 2010), and it’s near impossible to find any information about it other than the fact that it’s being made into a film. Quite bizarre indeed. It’s possible that most of the support for the film is coming from the production side of things, with Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay (or to Caruso, Uncle Mike and Steve) producing. However, given the “Twilight”/”Saved by the Bell”-esque premise, we can’t imagine what a Bay fan would want with something like this.
A little dig-dug yielded the film’s barebones Facebook page, with the DreamWorks logo as the default picture and a mere 299 fans of the film. The page does give a release date — 2/18/2011. With less than a year to go and little to no fan-base, the studio must be really optimistic about this one. Since the date is relatively soon, expect shooting to happen sooner than later. Maybe we’ll even get that book we’ve heard so much about.
