Certain corners of the internet get worked up about silly things. For example: a year ago, when Michael Bay (who is producing “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles“) said that, “These turtles are from an alien race, and they’re going to be tough, edgy, funny, and completely lovable,” nerds lost their shit. Message boards lit up, underoos were burned, controversy gripped the nation. Okay, not really, but folks got unreasonably bent out of shape about a movie about mutant ninja turtles. But it’s all cool now bro, as Bay is here to assuage the audience he hopes will show up for this thing, that original origin story is intact.
“There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not. It’s the ooze!” Bay told Moviefone. “It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic.” Yes, because if there is one thing TMNT demands, it’s authenticity.
But overall, Bay believes fans who are worried about Megan Fox as April O’Neill and the entire enterprise in general, will be surprised and that they’re going to be really happy with this movie. “When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great,” he says. So, hooray?
