'The Beekeeper' Red Band Trailer: Jason Statham Is Out For Revenge In David Ayer's New Action Film

Though, in recent years, David Ayer is largely known as the guy who directed “Suicide Squad” and experienced all the behind-the-scenes drama that accompanied that production, we shouldn’t forget that the filmmaker had a whole career making action films. Now, he returns to his wheelhouse with the new film, “The Beekeeper.”

As seen in the trailer for “The Beekeeper,” the film fits beautifully in the fairly recent “man with a particular set of skills” action subgenre. This is a film about a beekeeper who experiences a very personal tragedy and takes it out on those who have wronged him. How were they supposed to know that a beekeeper is also a member of a super-secret group of elite soldiers who can basically walk into a building and murder everyone inside? I mean, if you look at Jason Statham and just assume he’s a normal beekeeper, I suppose that’s your problem.

Joining Jason Statham in the cast are Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons. “The Beekeeper” is directed by David Ayer, based on a script written by Kurt Wimmer. Ayer, of course, is probably best known for directing “Suicide Squad,” but before that debacle, he was the director of films such as “Fury,” “End of Watch,” and “Bright.”

“The Beekeeper” arrives in theaters on January 12, 2024. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:
