‘The Color Purple’ Trailer: The Beloved Classic Returns As A Musical This Christmas

Some of you might be familiar with the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “The Color Purple.” Others might know Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated drama of the same name. But the upcoming remake of “The Color Purple” takes that well-known story and provides a brand-new take, steeped in music and style.

As seen in the trailer for “The Color Purple,” the new film borrows from the Broadway version of the tale and is now a big, bold musical. The film tells the story of a woman and her long journey towards finding her inner strength and independence. With the help of the women in her life, she hopes to break free from those who have kept her down, while also on the search for her estranged sister. And yes, along the way, there are some huge musical numbers.

The film features an all-star cast that includes Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Fantasia Barrino. “The Color Purple” is directed by Blitz Bazawule, who is probably best known for the film, “The Burial of Kojo.” Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders, and Quincy Jones are all producers.

“The Color Purple” arrives in theaters on Christmas Day. You can watch the trailer below.
