Got a Tip?

‘The Iron Claw’ First Look Trailer: Zach Efron, Jeremy Allen White & Harris Dickinson Are Siblings Of A Wrestling Dynasty

While 2023 is coming to a close, one of the last major (largely) unseen and still super anticipated movies of the year is “The Iron Claw.” From filmmaker Sean Durkin, known for “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” the U.K. TV drama “Southcliffe,” and “The Nest,” his latest is a wrestling drama about the Von Erich Brothers.

As Zac Efron, who stars in the movie, says, the Von Erich brothers were the first rock star family of wrestlers out of Texas. They reined during the 80s and 90s and briefly did some time in the WWE when it was known as the WWF. But the family was apparently “cursed” and did have to face and stare down some really brutal family tragedies.

The cast of the film is stacked. Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”), and Harris Dickinson (“Triangle of Sadness”) star as the main trio of wrestling brothers; Maura Tierney and Holt McCallany (“Mindhunter”) play their parents, McCallany playing a heartless and demanding patriarch who is also their wrestling coach, and Lily James stars as Efron’s love interest.

Here’s the official synopsis:

The true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s. Through tragedy and triumph, under the shadow of their domineering father and coach, the brothers seek larger-than-life immortality on the biggest stage in sports.

Richard Reed Parry, one of the multi-instrumentalist members of The Arcade Fire, wrote the score. A24 is releasing the film domestically, and “The Iron Claw” is scheduled for a December 22, 2023 release. Watch the new first-look clip below.
