Ethan Hawke is an actor who always chooses interesting projects. Sure, sometimes he’ll jump on a Marvel project or a horror film, but he will also lend his talents for an indie thriller such as the forthcoming “The Last of the Tribe.”

As reported by Variety, Ethan Hawke is set to star in Claudio Borrelli’s new film, “The Last of the Tribe.” In the film, Hawke plays an ex-Chicago cop who is now a corporate gun-for-hire. His next mission is to go to the Brazilian Amazon to murder the last member of an indigenous tribe. Hawke will star opposite Zaya Guarani, who herself is an indigenous person born in the Amazon. The film is produced by Fernando Meirelles and Ed Saxon.
“In this week when Southern Brazil is flooded in the worst tragedy the country has ever experienced, Petrobras, the state-owned oil company, plans to explore oil in the Amazon,” said Meirelles. “A film that talks about prioritizing commercial interests over the preservation of the world’s largest forest could not be more urgent.”
Some of Hawkes more recent performances are in films such as “The Northman,” “Raymond & Ray,” “Strange Way of Life,” “Wildcat,” and “Leave the World Behind.” He’s also recently shown up in Taylor Swift’s music video for “Fortnight.”
The filmmaker, Borrelli, is best known for his directorial debut, “Vultures.”
“The Last of the Tribe” is taking part in the Cannes film market where it hopes to find a studio for distribution. It’s still far too early to know when we might see the film arrive in theaters.
