‘The Life Of Chuck’: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan & Jacob Tremblay Join Mike Flanagan’s Latest Stephen King Adaptation

Hot off the premiere of “The Fall Of The House Of Usher” on NetflixMike Flanagan is already working hard on his next project. And it’s another Stephen King adaptation, shooting in Alabama under an interim agreement. Flanagan fans already knew “Life Of Chuck,” based on short stories in King’s 2020 book “If It Bleeds,” has Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill leading the cast, but Deadline reports three more names join the project: Chiwetel EjioforKaren Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay. It’s worth nothing Tremblay has worked with Flanagan before, on “Before I Wake” and “Doctor Sleep.”

“The Life Of Chuck” follows the death and life of Charles Krantz, only in reverse. It starts with his death at 39 from a brain tumor and works its way backward, to the character’s childhood in a house he believes is haunted. Flanagan produces the feature with longtime producing partner Trevor Macy through Intrepid Pictures.  QWGmire also helps financially, with WME Independent repping the film domestically, and FilmNation Entertainment doing so abroad.

Ejiofor’s recent work includes Showtime‘s “The Man Who Fell To Earth” and “The Pod Generation” with Emilia Clarke, which opened Sundance earlier this year. Up next, he stars in his sophomore directorial effort “Rob Peace” with Camila Cabello and Michael Kelly. Also on the horizon for Ejiofor: “The Old Guard 2” at Netflix, and Sony‘s “Venom 3.”

As for Gillan, she starred in “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3” this summer, as well as other recent Marvel fare like “The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special” and “Thor: Love And Thunder.” Up next, she has the comedy “Late Bloomers,” fresh off its SXSW premiere, and “Sleep Dogs,” a crime thriller with Russell Crowe.

Tremblay recently starred in Macon Blair‘s “The Toxic Avenger” with Peter Dinklage, which opened Fantastic Fest in Austin this year. Acting-wise, audiences know Tremblay best from “Room,” “Wonder,” and “Good Boys.” He has voice roles up next in “Wildwood” and Charlie Kaufman‘s “Orion And The Dark” for Netflix and Dreamworks.

With “The Life Of Chuck” already shooting, expect it in theaters some time next year. Then we’ll see what Flanagan plans to do next; maybe that adaptation of King’s “The Dark Tower” series for Amazon?
