Thanks to the massive success of “Longlegs,” filmmaker Osgood Perkins is the “it” horror director of the moment. He has proven to be someone who can be a master of creepy atmosphere. Now, he’ll bring that to the upcoming film, “The Monkey.”

As seen in the teaser, “The Monkey” is based on a Stephen King short story about a cursed monkey toy that leads to a string of murders. The teaser doesn’t give anything away, but it definitely highlights how creepy the monkey toy can be. The only hint of murder is with the main actor, Theo James, looking at something in shock and horror while covered in blood. What did he witness? We still have to wait a while until we know for sure.
The film stars James opposite Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. As mentioned, “The Monkey” is the new film from director Osgood Perkins, who also wrote the screenplay. In addition to “Longlegs,” he also directed films such as “The Blackcoat’s Daughter,” “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House,” and “Gretel & Hansel.” Even though he’s no stranger to filmmaking, he’ll forever be known as the guy who did “Longlegs.”
“The Monkey” is set to arrive in theaters on February 21, 2025. With that date in mind, you have to assume NEON is hoping the film can serve as counterprogramming to the Marvel Studios film, “Captain America: Brave New World,” which arrives a week prior.
