'The Mortal Instruments' Returns As A TV Series, 'Resident Evil' Also Headed To The Small Screen

nullConstantin Films really wanted "The Mortal Instruments" to be a hit and become the next big YA franchise. Even though "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones" effectively tanked, they pushed on with plans for a sequel, with promises made last fall that "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Ashes" would shoot this year. That was the last anyone heard of it, but it looks like fans of Cassandra Clare‘s book series have reason to keep hope alive.

The studio announced at New York Comic Con that a TV series based on the books is in the works. “It actually makes sense to do (the novels) as a TV series,” Constantin’s Martin Moszkowicz said to THR. “There was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the ‘Mortal Instruments’ film. In the series we’ll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth.”

While there’s no word yet if the show will pick up where the movie left off or start over, our guess is that it will do the latter. But that’s not all Constantin has up its sleeve.

The trade reports they are also developing a TV series based on "Resident Evil," as well as "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer," based on the acclaimed book by Patrick Suskind, which was already turned into a 2006 movie directed by Tom Tykwer. So there are lots of possibilities on the horizon, but we’ll see which one audiences go for.
