In case you missed it, “The Walking Dead” alum Jon Bernthal is heading to Netflix: he’s going to play the dark antihero The Punisher for the second season of Marvel’s “Daredevil.” The casting was well received around the Internet. Bernthal is a terrific actor and especially in tough guy roles, so the merciless Punisher fits the bill.
But what role will he play? As you probably suspected, especially if you’ve spent a minute with either the comic book or the Netflix show, The Punisher won’t be a friend, but a foe of Daredevil according to a report from Nerdist. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. While Matt Murdock beats bad guys within an inch of their life, the Man Without Fear essentially has a "no kill" code. The Punisher’s moral code is much more flexible, and over the years the character’s been a lone wolf, judge, jury, and executioner type figure.

If anything, Marvel can probably reap some good friction from the two characters who are are both vigilantes on the other side of the law, but with two distinctly different worldviews: Daredevil tries to protect his city, but The Punisher is willing to burn down anyone who’s committed violent crimes against innocents. The question for fans is: will the appearance spawn its own solo series for Bernthal? Well, Marvel is probably taking a wait and see approach because The Punisher is really closer to sociopath than antihero.
Meanwhile, in other Marvel related news, actor William Hurt says the General Ross character he once played in “The Incredible Hulk” will be much different in “Captain America: Civil War.”
"I loved playing Ross the first time because I was able to try and create an ego as big as the monster he was chasing. And one that was as warped too," he told IGN this week. "[Ross in Civil War] is different because it’s a different style. It’s a more modernized style. And what they’ve done is they’ve taken a character who was the Ross from the older film and made a new version. This is a much newer Ross. A much different Ross. And I liked that a lot. I haven’t had a lot of time to understand it, but I’m doing the best I can. And they haven’t fired me yet."
Lastly, will we be seeing “Iron Man 2” actress Leslie Bibb reprise her role as a journalist in the aforementioned ‘Civil War’? She teased an appearance in an upcoming Marvel film and ‘Civil War’ is the only one shooting at the moment, so it seems like a good bet.
