In a last-minute fastball, the Television Academy decided to reveal the nominees for two categories of the 2025 Emmy Awards at 4:47 AM PT, 7:47 AM ET on CBS This Morning. They announced this decision 12 hours before it happened. We’re not sure what the backstory was for this olive branch to CBS, the network broadcasting the ceremony in September, but the nominees for Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Talk Series are now known four hours before the rest of the nominees.
In the Outstanding Reality Competition category, the nominees are:
“The Traitors”
“RuPaul’s Drag Race”
“Top Chef”
“The Amazing Race”
“Survivor”
The Outstanding Talk Series nominees are:
“The Daily Show”
“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”
“Jimmy Kimmel Live”
“The Traitors” is coming off two key wins, taking the Outstanding Reality Competition Emmy last year after “Drag Race” won it five out of the last six previous years. Alan Cumning also took the Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program after RuPaul Charles won it eight straight times. The host category will be announced with the rest of the categories at 8:30 AM ET.
“The Daily Show” has taken the Talk Series category the last two years and 12 times overall. This year’s race is intriguing, considering the category has shrunk from five to four to now three nominees over the past three years. The fact that “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers” were not in the mix due to fewer nomination slots has certainly ruffled some feathers.
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ on September 14 at 5 PM PT, 8 PM ET.
