‘Harry Potter’ First Look: New HBO Series Reboot Begins Production, Debuts In 2027

Filming on the HBO series reboot of the “Harry Potter” franchise has finally started up, and they’ve shared an image from the set. That first-look image from HBO’s official Instagram account features newcomer Dominic McLaughlin in-character as the titular Harry Potter on the set of the series reboot.

Francesca Gardiner is showrunning “Harry Potter” with Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes as they hope to revive the Potterverse franchise after the “Fantastic Beasts” prequel spinoff films eventually fizzled out after three releases. Warner Bros. had originally planned on making five of those prequel films.

HBO has assembled quite a group of actors for the new iteration with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.

We can’t imagine too many folks would be unaware of main concept for “Harry Potter,” but each season of the series version is said to be exploring each book as the Boy Who Lived discovers his Wizarding heritage as he leaves his bleak life with miserable realitives to become a mythical figure who will go up against Lord Voldemort, an evil Wizard who killed Harry’s parents and looks to return from the dead to challenge the leadership of magic-users.

Mylod’s impressive directing credits feature “The Menu,” “The Last of Us,” “Succession,” “Shameless,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Entourage.”

While filming has only just started, there is going to be a bit of a wait for audiences as the series won’t be premiering on HBO on traditional cable and streaming on HBO Max until 2027. Check out that set photo below.
