We have been teased a movie featuring “Girls Trip” star Tiffany Haddish, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, and it’s going to be hard to consider any other project from the pair until it happens. But greatness rarely comes quickly, so far now, this developing new movie has our attention.
Deadline reports that Haddish will team up with Melissa McCarthy for the true crime drama “The Kitchen.” The’s right — drama. Adding another twist, the film will be based on the comic series from DC’s Vertigo and dive into a story told against the backdrop of the Irish mob. Again, this is a serious departure for both leads. Here’s the comic synopsis:
New York City, late 1970s. In the world of THE KITCHEN, the Irish gangs of Hell’s Kitchen rule the neighborhood, bringing terror to the streets and doing the dirty work for the Italian Mafia—but after the leaders are locked up in prison, it’s up to their wives to keep running the rackets. And once they get a taste of the fast life and easy money, it won’t be easy to stop.
Andrea Berloff (“Straight Outta Compton“) wrote the script and will be making her directorial debut with “The Kitchen,” with New Line Cinema and DC Entertainment housing the project. While this is a comic adaptation, it’s still a crime movie featuring two female leads and directed by a woman, which is frankly a breath of fresh air.
