Tina Turner is a musical icon with very few peers. Not only did her career span decades, inspiring millions with her ridiculous number of hit songs, but her style, performances, and attitude would go on to carry a legacy of its own. So, even if HBO’s “Tina” doesn’t break the documentary mold, it’s probably worth watching just for the subject alone.

And as seen in the new trailer for “Tina,” the film covers pretty much all aspects of Turner’s life and career. However, unlike some of the other film and TV projects that look at the career of Tina Turner, the film isn’t obsessed with her marital issues with Ike Turner, though they do come up. The film really does use interviews and archival footage just to show how Tina Turner went from early fame in the ‘60s to becoming known as the Queen of Rock & Roll.
We were able to catch “Tina” as part of this year’s digital Berlin Film Festival. And in our review, we said, “…Despite its cliched stylings, [‘Tina’] succeeds through its intimacy and emotionality, as well as the smart arrangement of its footage.”
