Got a Tip?

Tinder Set To Release An Apocalyptic, Interactive TV Series As The Dating App Ventures Into Streaming

Just when you thought the Streaming Wars couldn’t get any more crowded — here comes Tinder.

Yep, you read that right. Tinder, the app that allows people to randomly hook up with people based on looks and a brief personality description, is entering the streaming game. But instead of trying to land some A-list talent for a digital series that people may or may not watch, Tinder has decided to build off its app idea for a, dare I say, creative option.

According to Variety, Tinder is developing a choose-your-own-adventure style digital series for its app that will utilize the swipe left/swipe right mechanics to allow users to advance the plot. Set against the pending apocalypse, the series asks the question “Who would you spend your last night alive with?” And through various choices, spanning six-episodes, viewers will answer the question for themselves.

The untitled series is directed by Karena Evans, who is an up-and-coming filmmaker that has a fair amount of buzz surrounding her. She’s best known for her work in music videos, helming popular Drake clips such as “In My Feelings,” “God’s Plan,” and “I’m Upset.”

And for those that think this series is some low-budget, cheap attention-grabbing project meant to drive people to use Tinder, then well, you’re right on that last part. However, this series is far from a low-budget digital B-film. Clocking in at around two hours in length, the series has a budget that is reportedly in the range of $5 million. In addition, the producers of the new show are so excited about the project, they’re reportedly interested in shopping it around to other streaming services in the future. That being said, it’s still unclear if this means the eventual re-release will lose the choose-your-own-adventure aspect or not.

Either way, the series is expected to debut in October. And yes, if you’re interested in checking it out, you have to install Tinder. So if you’re in a committed relationship and/or married, you may want to explain this in great detail to your partner before the awkward conversations begin.
