We all know what comes next for Ryan Gosling: “Project Hail Mary,” in theaters on March 20, 2026. But what about afterwards? THR has the scoop there, and it looks like the “The Fall Guy” and “Barbie” star will team up with Will Ferrell for a new action comedy over at Amazon MGM Studios.
A Ferrell-Gosling collab? Stranger things have happened in Hollywood (and it already happened, kind of, in “Barbie”), and “Tough Guys” sounds like it could be Gosling’s most overtly comic role of his entire career. Here’s a brief logline for the film: “Fed up with being ‘disposable,’ two henchmen break free from the criminal underworld and rewrite the rules as they abandon their ruthless boss and dodge the elite assassin on their trail.”
THR reports that Gosling brought Ferrell onboard “Tough Guys” after he fell in love with Daniel Gold‘s script, and the movie could be just what Ferrell’s career needs right now. It’s not that Ferrell is flailing, but he hasn’t had a major hit in a while, and him working with Gosling could fix that. Other upcoming projects for the comedian include “You’re Cordially Invited” (another Amazon MGM joint), Nicholas Stoller‘s “Judgment Day,” and “Golf” over at Netflix. As for Gosling, he also has Shawn Levy‘s “Star Wars: Starfighter” in the pipeline.
Along with a leading role, Gosling is in talks to produce “Tough Guy” via his General Admission banner with Jessie Henderson. Ferrell may also produce with Jessica Elbaum through Gloria Sanchez. Trevor Engelson and Aaron Folbe will executive produce via Underground.
So, will this upcoming “Barbie” reunion between Gosling and Ferrell be box office gold for Amazon MGM? Maybe if a solid director gets attached. Expect “Tough Guys” to hit theaters sometime in 2027.
