'Turn Up Charlie' Trailer: Idris Elba Plays A DJ-Turned-Nanny In New Netflix Comedy Series

Can you be a voted Sexiest Man in the World, star in action films, and be one of the biggest actors in the world unless you’ve done the requisite “unlikely man becomes a caregiver to spoiled kid” project? The Rock, Vin Diesel, and now Idris Elba are just a few names to tackle these sorts of projects. Elba’s is the most recent, as he becomes the unlikely nanny in the new Netflix series “Turn Up Charlie.”

As seen in the new trailer, Elba stars as Charlie, a DJ that has fallen on hard times. After meeting one of the worlds biggest DJ’s, he agrees to become the nanny to the celebrity’s child. Hilarity ensues.

Elba isn’t known for his comedic chops. He’s a great actor, without a doubt. However, the actor’s roles up until now have tended to stay on the more dramatic side of things. Clearly, Elba is hoping to branch out, as he tackles this sort of comedy series, as well as his upcoming film work in the new movie “Hobbs and Shaw,” where he basically plays a supervillain that has to beat up The Rock and Jason Statham.

But before he can handle those actors and blow things up, he has to be the butt of some jokes and babysit a spoiled little girl. Sounds fun!

Elba stars alongside Frankie Hervey, Piper Perabo, and JJ Feild.

“Turn Up Charlie” hits Netflix on March 15.

Here’s the synopsis:

Turn Up Charlie follows a down-and-out DJ who plots to rebuild his music career whilst working as a nanny for his famous best friend’s wild 11-year-old daughter in this Netflix Original Comedy Series.
