Got a Tip?

Vince Vaughn & Kathryn Newton To Do A Classic Serial Killer/Teen Girl Body Swap In New Blumhouse Thriller

Body-swap films normally find their way firmly placed in the comedy genre. Whenever you take someone and put their brain in the body of their complete opposite person, hilarity normally ensues. But for the upcoming untitled film from writer-director Chris Landon and Blumhouse Productions, there’s likely going to be plenty of scares and awfulness to even out the laughs.

According to Vulture, Landon has reteamed with Blumhouse, the company that has brought audiences his previous films “Happy Death Day” (both 1 and 2), as well as his various entries in the “Paranormal Activity” franchise, for a brand-new film that finds Vince Vaughn switching bodies with young actress Kathryn Newton. But there’s one catch. You see, the teenage girl will be switching bodies with a serial killer played by Vaughn. Sure, there’s likely a bit of hijinks but we’re going to guess that there’s plenty of murder and mayhem, as well.

“In my crazy quest to find ways to reinvent the idea of the final girl, I’m beyond excited to make this movie,” said Landon. “My co-conspirator and co-writer Michael Kennedy and I have concocted the most insane, fun movie, and we can’t wait to unleash holy hell.”

This sort of film is a bit of a departure for Vaughn. Even though he’s been showing up in some hard-hitting films, as of late, “Brawl in Cell Block 99” and “Dragged Across Concrete,” the actor is best known for many general audiences as the funny best friend from films like “The Wedding Crashers” and “Old School.” It’ll be interesting to see how people react to seeing him in a role that is both goofy and scary.

Newton, on the other hand, is a relative unknown to the general public, as she has yet to have a truly standout starring role in a project. That being said, she’s really impressed with roles on shows like “Big Little Lies” and “Halt and Catch Fire,” so we’re excited to see what she brings to Landon’s upcoming film.

So, on paper, a body-swap film with Vince Vaughn and a teenage girl sounds hilarious. Adding a serial killer element makes it insanely weird. But Landon has impressed with “Happy Death Day,” so we’re willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. It should be interesting, either way.
