For the most part, Vince Vaughn hasn't deviated all that often from the comedic persona which is his bread and butter, and why should he? He has it down cold, it pays the bills and it keeps his calendar busy. But it looks like the "The Cell" and "Psycho" actor is readying something a little bit different.
Deadline reports that New Regency has opened the briefcase and pulled out six figures worth of cash for "Gunslingers," a pitch that will be written by "Braveheart" scribe Randall Wallace with Vince Vaughn to star, and both producing. The story will take place in modern day Los Angeles, and the action adventure boasts a premise "where heroic and iconic characters from the past collide with contemporary urban reality." So, like a grown up version of "Wreck-It Ralph"? Are we going to see Dirty Harry squaring off again The Terminator? It's seems very, very high concept, but also kind of cool and interesting, so we'll see where it goes. The site also says the script will be a "two-hander" so we guess Vaughn will ring up Ben Stiller or Owen Wilson to see if they're interested. But what the tone turns out to be will be interesting, considering Wallace isn't usually known for being funny.
For now, Vaughn is shooting "The Internship" with the aforementioned Wilson, and appears in "The Watch" opening next week. Meanwhile, Wallace recently lined up the directorial gig "The Conscientious Objector" and has been working with Mel Gibson on his Viking script that will maybe one day get made. So, no word on when "Gunslingers" will actually happen, but it's a bit of a way off at the moment.
