'Voyagers': Andrew Garfield & Daisy Edgar-Jones Headline Sebastián Lelio's Upcoming Carl Sagan Biopic

The market at this year’s Cannes Film Festival already boasts the likes of Shell,” Andorra,” and a new actioner from Guy Ritchie. Now Deadline reports a star-studded joins the sale on the Croisette: Sebastián Lelio‘s Carl Sagan biopic “Voyagers,” with Andrew Garfield to star as the famous astronomer.  Daisy Edgar-Jones also stars as Ann Druyan, Sagan’s spouse of fifteen years.

“Voyagers” marks a reunion between Garfield and Edgar-Jones after starring together in the Hulu miniseries “Under The Banner Of Heaven” last year. Lelia’s film takes place in 1977, as a NASA team led by Sagan prepares to launch humanity’s first interstellar probes and The Golden Record that accompanies them. But as Sagan and his team race against the clock to prep the probes, he also unexpectedly falls in love with his collaborator Ann Druyan.

Lelio co-writes “Voyagers” with Jessica Goldberg, with Druyan providing interviews with people who worked on the Golden Record project.  Ben Browning produces the film for FilmNation Entertainment with Lynda Obst and Druyan. FilmNation handles “Voyagers” global sales at the Cannes market.

Lelio is fresh of “The Wonder” for Netflix with Florence Pugh, a film he directed and co-wrote. That film got a nomination for Oustanding British Film Of The Year at last year’s BAFTAs. Lelia’s other recent work includes 2018’s “Gloria Bell,” a remake of his 2013 film, “Gloria,” and 2017’s “Disobedience.”

Garfield’s adds “Voyagers” to other upcoming films like John Crowley‘s “We Live In Time” with Pugh. As for Edgar-Jones, she stars next on “On Swift Horses” with Jacob ElordiWill Poulter, and Diego Calva, which premieres in competition at Cannes later this month. Edgar-Jones also has the upcoming “Twister” sequel with Glen Powell, which heads into production soon. The actress also has the upcoming Carole Jones biopic “Beautiful” in the pipeline.

“Voyagers” marks yet another huge title at this year’s Cannes market. What else will join in the weeks heading up to the festival’s start? Stay tuned on that.
