'Andorra': Bobby Cannavale & Elizabeth Debicki To Star In Thriller From The Director Of 2019's 'The Burnt Orange Heresy'

Elizabeth Debicki and director Giuseppe Capotondi teamed up in 2019 for “The Burnt Orange Heresy,” a devilish thriller about the art world, forgery, and the lengths one will go to protect one’s image. Now THR reports that the duo will work together again on a new thriller from producer James Ivory. And the film will be for sale at the Cannes market later this month.

Bobby Cannavale and Ruth Wilson join Debicki for “Andorra,” another twisty tale from Capotondi. So what’s this one about? Well, Cannavale plays an American ex-pat named Alexander Fox who moves to the sovereign state of Andorra to make a new life for himself. But he quickly gets embroiled in the lives of Debicki’s Australian Mrs. Dent and her daughter, Miss Quay, who may have something to do with Fox being in Andorra. And things only get more sinister after a dead body washes ashore in the local harbor.  Peter Cameron pens the script for the film.

“A Kafkaesque tale of murder, love and deception, “Andorra” is not what it looks like. Like an ant on a Möbius strip, Alexander finds himself in a loop that’s almost impossible to escape,” Capotondi said in a press statement about the film. “Fun, sexy, mysterious, extravagantly beautiful, thrilling and absolutely satisfying, “Andorra” is pure escapism. Literally.”

Jamie Bialkower produces “Andorra” through Jump Street Films. Meanwhile, Cora Palfrey and Sarah Lebutsch will serve as executive producers for Independent Entertainment alongside Ivory. Independent will handle the film’s international sale on the Cannes market later this month. Production on “Andorra” will go ahead this Fall.

“We are incredibly excited to be launching sales on “Andorra,” executive produced by the legendary James Ivory, at this year’s Cannes market, said Palfrey. “Featuring a superb lead cast, the masterful direction of Giuseppe, whose work we’ve admired for years, we are sure that buyers will be as gripped as we were by this riveting mystery thriller with a heart-stopping twist.”

Meanwhile, here’s Bialkower’s plug for the thriller: “Peter Cameron’s vivid and haunting characters demand actors of the highest calibre, and Giuseppe has assembled a dream team to bring them to life. The world of “Andorra” is impossibly heightened and strangely unsettling, leading us with a ruthless precision to a destination that makes you question everything that has come before. It promises to make for a visually stunning and richly psychological film for audiences to debate.”

It certainly sounds like “Andorra” is a suitable follow-up to Capotondi’s 2019 film. So who will pick up distribution rights for the film at Cannes later this month? With Debicki and Cannvale leading the cast, expect someone to swoop in on this fast.
