We’re less than two weeks away from the theatrical release of “Transcendence” and Warner Brothers has dropped seven new clips from the film, plus a TV spot, a poster, and a fifteen-second viral video. The clips give us a good glimpse of this impeccable cast which includes Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Paul Bettany, Morgan Freeman, and Cillian Murphy. And if you’re still not 100% sure as to what this film is all about, hopefully these clips can help fill in the blanks.
Johnny Depp leads this sci-fi/thriller as Dr. Will Caster, an artificial intelligence researcher whose dream is to invent a machine that possesses sentience and collective intelligence. Naturally, the experiments he’s conducted over the years have made him famous, but it’s also made him a prime target of anti-technology extremists. Dr. Caster’s unhealthy thirst for knowledge becomes exacerbated when he uploads his mind into a computer, this gives him an extraordinary amount of power and he appears to be unstoppable.
“Transcendence,” of course, is cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut. He’s primarily known for his collaborations with Christopher Nolan and it’s nice to see Nolan regulars such as Freeman and Murphy get substantial roles here. We also can’t forget that Rebecca Hall appeared in Nolan’s “The Prestige.” But the most interesting aspect of “Transcendence” will be how different Wally Pfister’s sensibilities as a director are from Christopher Nolan. Is his voice strong enough to stand out on its own? We’ll get to find out on April 18th.
In the meantime, be sure to check out the clips, TV spot, poster, and viral video below.
