“Evil Dead” is about five twenty-something friends at a remote cabin in the woods. Things get interesting when they find a Book of the Dead and conjure up some demonic spirits from the nearby woods. Feel like you’ve seen it before? That’s because it’s a remake of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult horror classic.
Jane Levy (“Suburgatory”), Zac Efron lookalike Shiloh Fernandez (“Little Red Riding Hood”), bearded and shaggy-haired Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas (“Cloverfield,” “Melrose Place”), and obligatory horror movie blonde Elizabeth Blackmore lead the cast of the redo that is taking its R-rating with enough blood and gore that they’ve been touting it as “the most terrifying film you will ever experience.” Whether or not it lives up to that statement is up for debate.
Our own slice-and-dice SXSW review here suggests the film doesn’t necessarily live up to the hype, while the gruesome and haunting clips below argue this one is bringing the intensity it promises. Thoughts? “Evil Dead” rises on April 5th.
