“We’re taking shots, but at the same time we’re respectful. I don’t think we’re sneering at Silicon Valley,” executive producer Alec Berg told THR about this upcoming HBO comedy. “It would be the same thing if you were doing something about show business: There are certain aspects of it that are great and people who genuinely care about what they’re doing and honestly believe in the products they’re making and aren’t just money-grubbing scumbags—and then there are outsize personalities who are parodies as human beings and aspects that are ripe for satire.”
An industry with lots of money and outsized personalities? It sounds not unlike “Entourage,” and writer/director Mike Judge says that’s not so far off. “It’s a good comparison. Our characters are completely different, but it’s a similar situation,” he says,
So, see for yourself with a new teaser for “Silicon Valley,” along with a fresh look at “Veep.” While lately HBO’s dramas—”True Detective” and “Games Of Thrones“—have led the conversation, their lighter fare tends to get overlooked. But for audiences looking to release the tension of whatever is going on in Westeros this spring, these shows will be a good reason to keep it locked on HBO on Sunday nights.
