A Cannes prize winner, a film we called “terrifying, and excitingly singular” out of TIFF, and a movie that landed on the top ten of 2013 for at least one member of The Playlist, “Blue Ruin” is coming off a strong festival run last year and is now headed to theaters. And a new trailer has arrived to convince you to see it if our praise didn’t do it enough justice.
Directed by Jeremy Saulnier, and starring Macon Blair and Devin Ratray, the story follows a man who returns to his childhood home on a mission of vengeance, but when things don’t go as planned, he’s forced to protect his estranged family. If the blood in that image above didn’t tip you, things will get ugly. And now set to unspool at Sundance, it will be one final turn for festival heads before opening this spring.
“Blue Ruin” rolls on April 25th. Trailer and poster below.
